Resident Rotations CA-1 / PGY-2
First year residents spend their first month in an intensive orientation program with one-on-one coverage, assignment of tutors, and extensive daily didactic sessions with a heavy emphasis on simulator training. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy and airway management workshops are conducted during the initial training period and throughout the residency.
The first year schedule includes the following rotations:

Operating Room Tutorial One Month

General Operating Rooms Five Months
Cardiac Anesthesia One Month
Neuroanesthesia One Month
Obstetrical Anesthesia One Month
Pain Medicine One Month
Post Anesthesia Care Unit Two Weeks
Pre-Admission Testing Clinic Four Weeks
Vascular Anesthesia One MonthCA-2 / PGY-3
The CA-2 rotations provide more in-depth subspecialty training in pediatric, vascular, cardiac, obstetrical, regional, , ambulatory, neurosurgical and thoracic anesthesia, and pain management CA-2’s also spend 2 months in the ICU which is co-directed by anesthesia faculty. The pediatric anesthesia experience is a three month rotation to Children's Hospital.
The second year rotation schedule includes the following rotations:

Cardiac Anesthesia	One Month
Neuroanesthesia	One Month
Obstetrical Anesthesia	One Month
Pain Medicine	One Month
Pediatrics (at Children's Hospital)	Three Months
Regional Anesthesia	One Month
Surgical Intensive Care Unit	Two Months
Thoracic Anesthesia	One Month
Vascular Anesthesia	One Month

CA-3 / PGY-4
CA-3/PGY-4 residents choose from two training tracks in their final year, the Clinical Scientist or Advanced Clinical. Our department is unique in allowing the
CA-3/PGY-4 year to be completely elective-based and designed to meet the needs of the individual resident.
The third year rotation options include the following:

Advanced Anesthesia	One to Twelve Months
Ambulatory Anesthesia	One to Six Months
Cardiac Anesthesia (option to complete TEE training month)	Two to Six Months
Critical Care	One to Six Months
Neuroanesthesia	One to Six Months
Obstetrical Anesthesia	Two to Three Months
Office-Based Anesthesia	One Month
Pain Medicine	Two to Three Months
Pediatrics (at Children's Hospital)	One to Three Months
Regional Anesthesia	One Month
Research	One to Six Months
Simulation	One Month
Thoracic Anesthesia	One Month
Vascular Anesthesia	One to Three Months

Upon completion of training, residents are eligible to enter the American Board of Anesthesiology certification process.
