Hypertension is not an unusual occurrencein the PACU.The diagnosis of hypertension must be considered in the context ofan elevated blood pressure in relation to the patient’s preoperative andintraoperative blood pressure range.Most commonly,postoperative hypertension isrelated to fluid overload,heightened sympathetic nervous system activity,orpreexisting hypertension .Postoperative hypertension,even as a transientepisode,may have significant cardiovascular and intracranial consequences,andtherefore,aggressive diagnosis and treatment are indicated. |
