In US, this kind of surgery is done with inhalation induction. Anesthesia is maintained with face mask with volatile anesthesia gas. Most of the time, the pediatric anesthesiologist chooses not to put in an iv catheter. So it goes like this:  the anesthesiologist asks the child to breath through the face mask; the kid goes to sleep in a few breaths; with the face mask tied to the patient's face to maintain anesthesia, turn the head to one side, surgeon inserts one ear tube; then turn the head to the other side, surgeon insert the other ear tube; then turn off the anesthesia gas, increase fresh O2 flow, wake the patient up.

在美国这种手术选择吸入麻醉。维持也采用面罩下吸入醚类来进行，多数情况下儿科麻醉医生不选择经静脉麻醉的方法，而是如上文说的那样：麻醉医生要求小孩经面罩呼吸，经过几次呼吸后小孩及入睡。将面罩紧紧扣合于患儿面部维持麻醉，头侧向一边让术者放置耳管，继令患者头转向另一侧放置对侧耳管。最后关闭挥发罐，加大氧流量冲洗环路，让患者清醒。
